Tuberculosis (TB): Acupuncture as a Complementary Treatment

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, primarily affecting the lungs but can also involve other parts of the body. Traditional treatment for TB involves the use of antibiotics for several months or even years. While these treatments are often effective, acupuncture may serve as a complement to traditional medicine, potentially helping to alleviate symptoms and expedite the healing process.

Acupuncture as a Treatment Method:
In the case of tuberculosis, acupuncture may help strengthen the immune system, alleviate coughing and shortness of breath, and reduce stress and anxiety associated with the disease.

Research Findings:
There is limited research on the use of acupuncture for the treatment of tuberculosis, but some studies suggest positive results. A study published in the "Journal of Acupuncture and Meridian Studies" in 2018 examined the effect of acupuncture as a supplement to traditional medicine in patients with tuberculosis. The results showed a significant improvement in coughing, shortness of breath, and quality of life among the treated patients compared to the control group.

Perspectives:
Although further research is needed, preliminary results suggest that acupuncture may be a promising complementary treatment for tuberculosis. Acupuncture may help alleviate symptoms, improve quality of life, and strengthen the immune system in patients with TB.
